Anti-Wrinkle Injections

The medicine temporarily reduces the signal between nerve and muscle. Where a line is created by repeated movement — raising the brows, frowning, squinting, wrinkling the nose — reducing that movement allows the overlying skin to rest and the line to soften.

Where a muscle is bulky rather than active, the same mechanism reduces its size over time. This is the basis for treating a heavy masseter along the jaw, or a prominent upper trapezius at the shoulder.

Along the jawline the objective is different again. The platysma of the neck pulls downward on the jaw margin; reducing that pull lets the margin read more cleanly. Same class of medicine, different purpose — and it does not tighten skin.

It does not fill anything. Lines that are present when your face is completely still are usually a structural problem and are not addressed by this treatment.

• This is a prescription medicine. It can only be used after a doctor has assessed you in person, and we cannot discuss specific products or doses in advance of that.
• Effect is temporary by design — when it wears off, muscle activity returns to how it was.
• Results depend heavily on injection technique and on your own anatomy. Asymmetry, brow position and muscle strength all vary between people.
• Areas are planned together rather than ticked off a list. Relaxing one muscle changes its balance with the muscles around it, which is why we assess the whole upper face even when you have come in about one line.
• Jaw and shoulder treatments work by reducing muscle bulk and therefore take longer to show — think in months, not days.
• Body areas such as the underarm and the calves are assessed individually rather than booked from a list. Ask at consultation whether what you have in mind is something we treat.
• Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with certain neuromuscular conditions, or with some medications. We screen for this at consultation.

That comes from dose and placement, not from the treatment itself. We would rather start conservatively and adjust at review than overshoot — an under-treated result can be added to, an over-treated one has to be waited out.

Same medicine, different objective and different timeline. Softening an expression line reduces movement in a thin muscle of the face and shows within days. Jaw slimming reduces the volume of a thick chewing muscle, which takes weeks to months and is judged over that period.

Jawline work is a third case again — it releases a downward pull from the neck rather than reducing bulk. We will tell you which of these your assessment actually points to, and they are not interchangeable.

Dose depends on the area, on your muscle strength and on what you want to change, so a number on a page would be a guess. We give you the full cost at consultation, before anything is agreed.

Your consultation will determine this. Skin type, medical history, medications and the changes you would like to see all affect which treatment is appropriate, and whether any treatment is suitable at all.

Every plan is assessed by our doctor. Treatments that require a doctor are performed by the doctor; treatments that may be delegated are performed by trained therapists under the doctor's direction. We will tell you which applies before you book.

Your first visit includes a consultation where the doctor examines your skin and determines if this treatment is suitable for you before proceeding with any procedures. You don’t need to book the consultation separately.

If you prefer to come in solely for an assessment, our consultation charge is $80. However, if you decide to proceed with treatment on the same day, this fee will be waived.

The doctor will examine your skin, take your medical history and give you a detailed account of your skin condition, which may differ from your initial expectations.

You leave with a written plan and the associated costs. If a treatment isn’t suitable for you, you’ll be informed of that instead.

There’s no same-day price or deadline attached to the plan. Prices don’t change based on when you decide.
